Understanding Admin Abilities

What is an Admin?

Administrators are users with additional rights and permissions that affect your organization’s Betterworks instance. They can do things that regular users cannot, like add new users, modify user information, adjust goal information, and more.

There are three classifications of administrators: Super Admin, Admin, and HR Admin. Each will have its own set of permissions and may overlap in some areas. Please use the table below to understand the differences in each user type.

Note: The term "(scope applied)" in the table means the HR Admin can only see information from departments or areas they are permitted to access.

Users with Super Admin privileges can add, update, and remove administrative privileges from within the Betterworks Admin portal. For more information on what reports do, visit our Using Admin Reports article. 

Navigate to the “Manage Departments and People” section of the admin portal to manage the various administrators at your company

Note: Only Super Admins can access this section.

Once you have scrolled to “Managing Admins,” you will see a simple list of the current admin within your organization. You have the ability to:

1. Add new administrators to this list. 

2. Change the privileges of existing administrators from Super Admin to Admin, or from Admin to Super Admin.

3. Remove someone’s administrative privileges completely.

Whenever you update someone’s privileges, we will let them know via notification.

Users with admin abilities have been selected by your Betterworks program lead. If you believe that you should be an admin, please reach out to your HRBP or program lead. They can then contact support or their Client Success Manager. 

* Permissions will be enforced on the All Goals and Goal Status reports. If an Admin does not have access to see some goals, those goals will not appear in those reports. Statistics inside all other Admin reports will be accurate, because they include all goal data.

** To interact with private goals, Admins must be added to those goals as a participant or editor. By default, their viewing and editing rights on private goals are identical to regular users’ rights.
