Analytics Overview
The Analytics view in Betterworks Guides provides valuable insights into how your employees interact with Betterworks. This tool allows admins to monitor login frequency, user activity, and overall engagement with Betterworks. Understanding these metrics can help you identify trends, improve user experience, and ensure your employees are making the most of Betterworks.
You can find the Analytics tab in the top right-hand corner of the Betterworks Guides platform.
Key Metrics You Can Track:
- Total Visitors
- Average Daily Time Spent on App
- Visitor Counts: Today, Yesterday, Last 7 Days, Last 30, 60 or 90 Days or a custom date range.
- Visitors Over Time
- List of Visitors
Note: You can review all of these metrics by segment using the dropdown menu. This allows you to filter data for specific groups within your organization, helping you to gain more targeted insights.
Customizing Visitors List
The Visitors List shows a record of all users who have logged into the application since Betterworks Guides was enabled. By default, the list shows Visitor ID, Last Visit, Days Active, and Events. You can customize the columns to show additional information using the predefined metadata available. To customize your columns, click on the column icon located in the top right corner of the Visitor widget.
Metrics Overview
After publishing a guide, understanding how it’s performing is essential to ensuring it meets your goals. The Metrics tab in Betterworks Guides provides a detailed, at-a-glance view of how users are interacting with a specific guide. This section offers insights into the number of views, time spent, and user activity associated with each guide, helping you assess its effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
To access Metrics, go to the guide module in the Betterworks Guides platform. Click on the guide you want to review, then toggle from 'Settings' to 'Metrics'.
Guide Views
The first chart on the Metrics tab summarizes guide views and viewers. This chart allows you to monitor how often your guide is being accessed over different timeframes:
- Timeframe Options: Choose between "Today," "Yesterday," "Last X Days," or a custom date range.
- View Types: Switch between "Views" (total number of views) and "Visitors" (unique viewers) in the top-left corner.
For each period, the chart breaks down the total views into first-time and repeat views. Hover over any block in the bar chart for more detailed information about the number of guide views during that specific period.
Visitors Per Guide Step
This chart provides insights into user engagement at each step of the guide. Here’s how to interpret it:
- Step-by-Step Engagement: See how many users, within your selected segment and date range, reached each step of the guide.
- Time Spent Per Step: The chart also displays the average time users spend on each step. This metric can help identify steps that may be too complex or confusing.
- Detailed Breakdown: Clicking on any step provides a deeper analysis, allowing you to examine user behavior at that particular stage of the guide.
Note: You can hover over the bar to see the average time spent on each step.
Guide Elements
In the Guide Elements section of the Metrics tab, you'll find a chart that provides detailed information about how users interact with different elements within your guide. The chart includes the following columns:
- Name: The specific name or identifier of the guide element (like a button or link).
- Element Type: The type of element being tracked, such as a button, link, or image.
- Action: The action that the user can take with this element, like clicking a button or selecting an option.
- Number of Clicks: This shows how many times the element has been clicked by users.
- % of Clicks (Step): The percentage of total clicks on this element out of all clicks within that specific step of the guide.
This chart is useful for understanding which elements in your guide are getting the most interaction. By analyzing this data, you can see which parts of your guide are effectively engaging users and which might need adjustment. For example, if a button has a low percentage of clicks, it might need to be made more prominent or its purpose better explained. This helps you optimize the guide to improve user experience and engagement.
Guide Activity
At the bottom of the Metrics tab, you’ll find a detailed report on guide activity. This section can help you understand how users are interacting with your guide over time:

Targeted Audience: Filter your data by clicking the drop downs on the right of "Guide Activity" to show:
- Everyone: All users targeted by the guide.
- Has Seen Guide: Users who have viewed the guide.
- Has Not Seen Guide: Users who have not yet interacted with the guide.

Downloadable Report: Click the download icon in the top-right corner to export a .csv version of the Guide Activity report for further analysis.
For the selected segment and time period, the report provides a summary of key engagement metrics:

Number of Steps Seen: How many steps in the guide each user has viewed.

Time Spent: Total time spent by users interacting with the guide.

Guide Status: The current status of the guide for each user:
- Displayed: The guide was shown to the user but they took no action (relevant for walkthroughs).
- Closed: The user dismissed the guide by clicking on the “X” icon, preventing automatic guides from being shown again.
- Action Taken: The user performed an action tied to a non-walkthrough event (e.g., submitting a poll).
- Advanced: The user moved from one step to the next in a walkthrough. If the walkthrough is not completed, it may reappear based on specific rules.
- Completed: The user completed all steps of the walkthrough without dismissing it.

Last Seen Date: The last time the guide was viewed by each user.
Using Metrics
By digging into the details, you can pinpoint where users may struggle, identify trends, and customize content to better suit your audience. Below are key ways to leverage these metrics for optimal guide engagement and effectiveness:
- Identify Drop-off Points: Use the "Visitors Per Guide Step" chart to identify where users are dropping off. If a particular step has a high exit rate, consider simplifying it or providing additional guidance.
- Optimize Guide Length: Review the time spent on each step. Steps that are consistently taking longer than expected might need to be reworked to improve clarity and user experience.
- Engagement Segmentation: Filter your audience to understand how different segments are interacting with the guide. This can help you tailor future guides to better meet the needs of specific user groups.
