Overview

The Betterworks Slack integration (the Betterworks Slackbot) connects Betterworks to your Slack workspace so users can interact with Betterworks from Slack.

With the Betterworks bot for Slack, you can:

  • Give and request feedback to/from coworkers
  • Receive a weekly summary of your activities
  • View and update your goals, and add comments to others' goals and milestones
  • Receive notifications about cheers, nudges, and @ mentions for your goals and milestones
  • Give and receive recognition to/from coworkers

Requirements

  1. You must be a Betterworks Super Admin and the Slack workspace administrator (or have permission to install apps) to enable the Betterworks Slackbot.
  2. Confirm all users are added to the Slack workspace, have accepted invitations and completed their profiles, and that email addresses match between Slack and Betterworks.
  3. This integration is intended for Slack's Pro and Business+ plans. The Slack Enterprise plan is not fully supported.
  4. Only one Slack workspace per organization is supported.

Configuration

  1. Go to Admin → Platform Configuration → Third-party integrations → Slack
  2. Click the toggle to Enable the integration

  1. Once authenticated, the button in the Betterworks Admin module will change to Re-install and can be used whenever you have new users who have joined the Slack workspace or to upgrade the bot version.

  1. (Optional) You can designate a Slack channel specifically for recognition by enabling the Share recognition submitted to a Slack channel

Note: Do not include the hashtag (#) in your channel name.

  2. Go to your Slack channel → View all members → Integrations → Apps → Add an app → and select the Betterworks Slackbot.

Note: When the Slackbot is enabled, it is enabled org-wide. User notifications are on by default after installation, and new Betterworks users will have the Betterworks Slackbot installed automatically.

Considerations

  1. The bot must be installed via the Betterworks Admin module, not the Slack Apps directory (installing from the Apps directory will not function).
  2. If you enabled recognition sharing, the Betterworks Slackbot must be invited to the designated channel. Otherwise, recognition will not post.
  3. Slackbot commands are fixed. Administrators cannot rename or disable individual commands.

FAQs

I'm a Betterworks Super Admin but not the Slack workspace administrator, what should I do?

Follow your organization's Slack policy at the workspace level. This may mean getting approval from, or coordinating installation with, your Slack workspace administrator.

Can I enable the Slack integration for only a select group of users?

No. When enabled, the Betterworks bot applies org-wide and installs automatically for new users.
